Generally speaking, I'm not a brand man. But there are a few brands that matter to me when it comes to music: Peavey, Rotosound, Marshall, and, of course, Gibson.

So what happens when such an iconic brand slips? Well, they pick themselves up and carry on - which is what Gibson appear to be doing. Cut out the superfluous. Concentrate on what the brand is famous for. Build. Good. Guitars.

And hopefully they will. Gibson has managed to garner a reputation over the last few years regarding shoddy QC, odd product choices, and so on. But at the end of the day, a Gibson is still a Gibson, and there's enough clout in that name to push the brand to the top once more.

If they get it right!
