Of course they do. Even if it's a throwaway lyric, or a simple piece of storytelling.

Every one of my songs has some meaning. These Cards Rolled Me is a warning against gambling addiction. Bootcut Blues is an ode to my favourite style of jeans. Blackout Road delves into my youth and how it shaped aspects of my adult mentality. Game is about dating insane girlfriends. And that's just a handful of my own. Every song has some kind of meaning behind it.

I can say that with some level of confidence, simply because writing anything creative does not spring out of empty space whole-cloth. There is an idea. The idea is nurtured. Pen goes to paper. Plectrum goes to guitar. That idea came from somewhere, and that is the collective experience of the writer(s). The things that you take on board to inform the works of your own imagination are not called "influences" for nothing. Whatever those influences are - they hold meaning, and those meanings are what creativity is built upon.
